The Righteousness of Equality In the United States, there is social unrest regarding the governments decision to prohibit the legalization of same sex marriage. Our modern day society suggest that people should have the ability to express themselves however they deem fit. Yet for gay and lesbian people, the right of same sex marriage is prohibited but should be legalized to grant them the freedom of the many expressive rights that all humans possess. If the legalization of marriage is extended to gay couples, gays would have rights to legally care for loved ones in addition to assist the economy recover and thrive. The Universal Declaration of Human Rights states that â€Å"All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights†Ã¢â‚¬ ¦show more content†¦In addition to the legal processes of being in a domestic partnership, a gay lover is denied property rights even if their lover has passed. The fundamentals of a deceased lover should be honored regardless of marriage laws excluding the right of gay marriage. The rights and freedoms of expression is promised according to the United States Constitution. In the document itself, the preamble suggest that Americans should promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity(Philadelphia Convention), but gay and lesbian people are discriminated against their own personal beliefs. This statement in the Constitution dictates an aura causing Americans to not fully promote the general welfare. As each person has the right to freedom of opinion and expression, the right to marry whomever a person chooses is of his or her own concern and not of the legal recognition of the government. Homosexuals are excluded from the rights of marriage in specific American states although they should not be discriminated or excluded from marriage. In regards to gay marriage, many protest and equality organizations have been formed to battle the state legislature about gay marriage. In California, Proposition 8 proposed that a gay marriage should be granted and the rights of equality be given to anyone.
